mett /mɛt/ adj. (Norwegian) - full; satisfied after eating
Tired of scanning barcodes that don't work, searching databases for missing items, and converting cups to grams? Just take a photo. Mett's AI identifies your food and estimates calories -- no databases, no barcodes, no typing.

Track meals in seconds. See the whole picture.
Mett is built for people who want to understand what they eat - without the tedium of manual logging or the anxiety of diet culture.
Built for real life.
Mett is deliberate about what it does -- and what it doesn't.
No typing required

Not a recipe app
Mett does one thing well: help you understand what you eat. No recipe suggestions, no meal plans, no grocery lists.
Not a workout app
No exercise tracking, no calorie burn offsets, no step counters. Plenty of apps do that already.
No streaks, no guilt
Miss a day? No broken streak. Overeat at a party? No red warnings. Skip tracking when you don't feel like it.
33 languages
Location-aware food recognition and a UI that speaks your language. From Norwegian to Japanese.
Cross-device sync
Encrypted sync keeps your data up to date across every device, automatically.
Three steps. That's it.
No manual entry. No barcode scanning. Just point your camera and go.

A letter from the author
As many of you, I've been doing meal tracking on and off for a long time. I have been quite unhappy with how most of the apps for this work. Scanning barcodes is unreliable, either the phone camera doesn't quite want to scan it, or the particular item doesn't exist in the app's database, or the size measurement is in cups, and you have to convert it into grams since that's how you measured it. And don't get me started on how much work this is when following recipes with 10-12 ingredients.
So I started experimenting a bit with using AI to classify the food it sees; and it performed better than I expected. It can, without any other input, tell you if what you are eating is good for you; it can break down the ingredients, and tell you roughly how many calories it contains. And if you photograph the recipe as well as the meal, it gives you even better results.
Importantly; I've built this in a way where I do not see your meal history. This is private to you. It is stored on your device and on our backend, but fully encrypted, so even if I wanted to I cannot see what you actually log.
I want to make it simple for you to become aware of the food you eat. After configuring the app, your only job is to make sure you add everything you eat. Just by doing that; you'll raise your own awareness of what and how much you eat; and you'll likely find that just being aware will over time cause you to eat less.
I think part of good product design is what restrictions you work with. And I've deliberately set some restrictions for this app, for things I am not interested in doing:
- This is not a recipe app. It is incredibly difficult to come up with recipes that are simple for you to make, where you will have the ingredients available to you, and that matches with what you like to eat.
- This is not a workout app. If you set a target, it isn't affected by how much you worked out that day.
- No streaks. I don't want to penalise you for missing a day, or for over-eating at a party with your friends. If you don't feel like tracking a specific day, just skip it.
I built this app for myself. And now I am sharing it with you. I hope you like it.

Frequently asked questions
If you have anything else you want to ask, reach out to us.
Why no barcode scanning?
Barcode databases are incomplete and often wrong. AI vision is more reliable for real food -- it handles mixed plates, home cooking, and restaurant meals that no barcode could capture.
How accurate are the calorie estimates?
Approximate, like all calorie tracking. The AI asks clarifying questions about portion size and cooking method when it matters. For packaged food and nutrition labels, it reads the exact values.
Can it handle complex recipes?
Yes. Photograph a recipe page and Mett breaks down every ingredient, estimates portions, and calculates per-serving calories. No manual entry needed.
What do you mean the developer can't see my data?
Your meal data is encrypted with keys derived from your passkey, which never leaves your device. The server stores only ciphertext it cannot decrypt. There is no backdoor.
What is a passkey?
A modern passwordless login method using your fingerprint, face, or device PIN. Passkeys are built into your device - no email or password required.
Will this app make me feel guilty?
No. No streaks to break, no red warnings, no judgment. Mett shows you what you eat. The awareness it creates is the whole point.
Why no workout or recipe features?
Mett focuses on one thing: understanding what you eat. Exercise tracking and meal planning are done well by other apps. Mett does less, on purpose.
What languages are supported?
Mett supports 33 languages for food recognition and adapts the UI to your device language. It also uses your location to recognize regional foods.
How do I manage my subscription?
From within the app settings. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time. No long-term commitments.
